This lovely display features lampwork buttons from Mary Gaumond and Kay Ferguson.  The resin button with glitter is by Cynthia Tsubaki, using an image of "Lady Washington" from the 18th century.

Interesting Facts About Martha Washington

​

Martha was born on June 2, 1731.

​

Unlike most women in Virginia in the early 1700s, Martha learned to read and write.

​

Martha had four children with her first husband, Daniel Parke Custis.  She outlived them all. 

​

Martha and George Washington were married on January 6, 1759.

​

Martha stayed at George Washington’s winter encampments throughout much of the Revolutionary War.

​

George Washington was the Nation’s first President making Martha the Nation’s first First Lady.

​

Martha died on May 22, 1802, and lies in rest next to her husband in Mount Vernon, Virginia.
