We are a club of avid collectors of antique and vintage buttons located in Fairfax, Virginia. Not the ordinary white plastic buttons of modern times, but rather, the beautiful, unusual, and historic buttons that may rise to the level of being little works of art. Even if they don’t qualify as art, often a little research reveals that they have a story to tell. Button collectors use buttons as a springboard to examine history, culture, art, material science, mythology, transportation, and of course fashion. It’s amazing how much information can be gleaned from one tiny button.

But it is not all academic! Each year we have a creative button project for you to make and take, a potluck in December, and games to play. We try to offer buttons for sale at each meeting.

Founded in the 1960’s, the Martha Washington Button Club’s purpose is to study and learn about all types of buttons and mutually to enjoy the hobby of button collecting. We welcome all who share an interest in studying, collecting, and preserving clothing buttons, both old and new.

Programs

Meetings are the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 3810 Meredith Dr., Fairfax, VA (enter in the back of the building, through the kitchen entrance).
